Analytical Technician

Supports manufacturing operations by performing laboratory analyses, evaluating results, and providing critical analytical data. Prepares samples, performs basic calibration and preventative maintenance, and troubleshoots laboratory instrumentation and methods. Uses data systems to monitor analytical performance and communicates results to internal clients. The role also supports environmental operations, including sampling, testing, waste treatment, stormwater management, and related field activities.
Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine laboratory analyses and collect samples according to established Sample Plans.

• Prepare basic calibration standards and perform routine calibration and preventative maintenance of analytical systems.

• Evaluate data validity, apply basic statistical methods, interpret results, and take appropriate action.

• Monitor analytical systems, identify issues, perform first-line troubleshooting, and escalate problems when needed.

• Document, communicate, and archive analytical results and calibration data.

• Follow Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) requirements and Operating Discipline Management System (ODMS) procedures.

• Identify and suggest improvements to laboratory processes, tools, and work practices.

• Escalate non-routine requests to the appropriate team member.

• Perform environmental sampling and testing.

• Conduct waste treatment pond rounds and support related operations.

• Coordinate salty water and sludge truck scheduling and loading.

• Support sump routing, stormwater handling, and line/filter clearing and unplugging.

• Operate valves and perform other field activities as required.

• Serve as an informal resource and provide support to less-experienced team members as needed.

Physical & Work Requirements

• Ability to lift upto 50 lbs.

• Ability to work outdoors in varying environmental conditions.

• Ability to climb approximately 15-foot ladders at least five times per shift.

• Ability to safely perform laboratory and field-based activities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or completion of vocational/upper secondary education, plus laboratory, manufacturing, or related experience.

• Post-secondary coursework in chemistry or a related field is preferred.

• Working knowledge of analytical laboratory methods, instrumentation, and data systems is preferred.

• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and commitment to safety.
