Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Automotive Test Engineer – Controls to join our team in Dearborn. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring the quality and reliability of automotive electronic control units (ECUs). You will be responsible for the full testing lifecycle, from analyzing requirements and designing test cases to building hardware test harnesses and developing sophisticated automation scripts.
Key Responsibilities

  • Software Requirements Analysis: Analyze complex software requirements to define test strategies and ensure 100% test coverage.
  • Test Case Design & Review: Author and review detailed L2 test cases in TestRail, including Smoke, Sanity, Feature Regression, and Stability testing.
  • Test Automation: Develop and maintain robust automated test suites using Python and CAPL frameworks to provide continuous quality feedback.
  • Hardware Integration: Build and maintain Test Harnesses and hardware benches (NI HW and Development HW) to support the BCM (Body Control Module) team.
  • Execution & Monitoring: Oversee test execution for nightly engineering and release builds; manage comprehensive logging and performance monitoring.
  • Defect Management: Identify, report, and analyze failures. Manage the end-to-end defect lifecycle to ensure timely resolution.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Investigate failures to determine if issues reside within the System Under Test (SUT), the test environment, or the automation script itself.
  • Reporting: Generate detailed execution reports summarizing pass/fail rates, progress, and coverage metrics.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Software Testing: 3–5 years of proven experience in software testing, specifically at the L2 (ECU-level).
  • Test Automation: 3+ years of experience with automation framework development and script implementation (e.g., Python, CAPL).
  • Software Verification: 3+ years of dedicated software verification experience.
  • Hardware Bench Building: 3+ years of experience building and configuring test benches.
  • Tools: Proficiency with test management systems, defect tracking systems, and measurement tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Scripting: Strong proficiency in Python.
  • Version Control: 2+ years of experience with GitHub.
  • Agile Methodology: 1+ year of experience working within an Agile framework.

Education

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
