The Jr. R&D/TS&D Technician provides hands-on technical support to scientists and engineers in the development, testing, and commercialization of new products and processes. This role operates batch and Parr reactors for chemical reactions, including polymerizations, and supports laboratory experiments using glassware and stainless-steel equipment.
The technician will operate and maintain laboratory equipment, collect and document experimental data, troubleshoot equipment, and assist with assembling and installing new reactors and experimental setups. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and eager to learn new process technologies.
Key Responsibilities

  • Operate batch polymerization and Parr reactors according to established procedures and reaction recipes.
  • Execute laboratory experiments in glassware and stainless-steel reactors and accurately record readings, observations, and results.
  • Input and adjust reactor process computer settings on a run-to-run basis.
  • Support scientists and engineers with product development, application development, technical service, and process research activities.
  • Perform routine calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs of reactors, laboratory equipment, and instrumentation.
  • Replace reactor components such as thermocouples, valves, pumps, and check valves; bend and install tubing as needed.
  • Operate analytical and testing equipment, including gas chromatographs, data loggers, viscosity measurement instruments, and other laboratory equipment.
  • Assist with the assembly, design, and installation of new reactors and experimental setups.
  • Maintain inventories of chemicals, consumables, and laboratory supplies and initiate orders as needed.
  • Package and dispose of laboratory waste in accordance with RCRA requirements and maintain good laboratory housekeeping.
  • Communicate equipment or process issues promptly to Technology Leaders and Lead Scientists.
  • Participate in team meetings and activities focused on safety, process improvement, troubleshooting, and problem-solving.
  • Follow all applicable safety procedures, including proper PPE, safety checks, chemical handling, and operating discipline requirements.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with 3+ years of laboratory experience required.
  • Associate degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a related technical field with relevant work experience preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment, reactors, instrumentation, or chemical processing is preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work safely with a wide variety of chemicals and laboratory equipment.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and willing to learn new technologies and processes.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team while managing assigned tasks with moderate supervision.
