Junior EH&S Sustainability Technician

The Junior EH&S Sustainability Technician supports Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) compliance by safely managing laboratory chemical waste, waste storage areas, and chemical deliveries. This is a hands-on, fast-paced role requiring strong initiative, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while following all applicable regulatory and company requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Chemical Waste & Material Handling

• Collect, package, label, and prepare laboratory and process-area chemical waste for transport and disposal.

• Maintain Central Accumulation Areas (CAA), including housekeeping, container storage, waste inventory, supplies, and required signage.

• Inspect waste storage areas and document inspections in accordance with RCRA and company requirements.

• Determine appropriate waste disposal methods using available resources and established procedures.

• Coordinate with R&D personnel on laboratory clean-outs and special waste disposal projects.

• Dispense chemicals from drums into smaller containers using required PPE and deliver chemicals to designated laboratories and storage areas.

• Handle routine physical and material-handling activities in a safe and compliant manner.

EH&S Compliance & Documentation

• Perform periodic inspections and checks of safety equipment and maintain required documentation.

• Identify issues, initiate corrective actions, and track work orders through completion.

• Maintain R&D EH&S records and databases accurately and on time.

• Report task and inspection completion status using applicable tracking systems.

• Support compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company EH&S requirements.

Additional Support

• Support the R&D EH&S team with procedure development, Management of Change (MOC) reviews, database management, and other special projects.

• Work effectively both independently and as part of a team to complete routine and project-based activities.

Required Qualifications

• Ability to wear and successfully complete fit testing for a full-face respirator.

• Must be clean-shaven when using a tight-fitting respirator to ensure a proper seal.

• Ability to wear required PPE, including a chemical suit, full-face respirator, and steel-toe work boots.

• Comfortable performing repetitive, physical, and hands-on material-handling tasks.

• Self-directed and able to complete routine daily responsibilities with limited supervision.

• Strong initiative and ability to remain productive in a busy, high-activity work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of laboratory or industrial chemicals.

• Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS).

• Forklift certification is preferred but not required.

• Previous EH&S, laboratory, chemical handling, or material-handling experience is a plus; this role may be suitable for an entry-level candidate.

Work Environment
This is a hands-on role in a busy R&D environment involving routine chemical waste collection, material handling, inspections, and chemical delivery. The successful candidate should be comfortable with physical and repetitive work, required PPE, and working independently with limited day-to-day oversight.
