We are seeking an R&D / TS&D Technician to support research scientists in the Catalyst R&D Group by synthesizing catalysts, generating characterization data, and operating laboratory and reactor systems critical to the development of advanced polyolefin catalysts used in plastics applications. This role combines laboratory operations, reactor support, data collection, troubleshooting, and safety-focused execution in a dynamic research environment.
Key Responsibilities

  • Support catalyst development through sample preparation, synthesis, testing, and characterization activities.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment including gas chromatography (GC), elemental titration systems, and FTIR spectroscopy instruments.
  • Operate fluidized bed reactor systems and assist with reactor maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs.
  • Handle, store, and process air- and moisture-sensitive materials using nitrogen glovebox systems.
  • Accurately measure and prepare catalyst samples and reactants using analytical balances.
  • Conduct daily safety inspections and support safe operating practices.
  • Document experimental procedures, observations, and results with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Troubleshoot process deviations and communicate findings to research staff and laboratory leadership.
  • Manage waste handling and disposal in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Perform routine housekeeping and equipment maintenance activities.

Qualifications
Required

  • Associate degree in a technical discipline with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7, OR
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a laboratory, chemical processing, reactor operations, technical, or related environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and data accuracy.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with scientists, engineers, and technicians.

Preferred

  • Experience working with laboratory analytical instruments and reactor systems.
  • Knowledge of flammable, pyrophoric, and air/moisture-sensitive materials and their safe handling.
  • Familiarity with chemical properties and laboratory calculations.
  • Experience operating within a regulated safety environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and work safely in laboratory and pilot plant environments.
